DOUGLAS D. BAUMGARTNER, AIA
Growing up in southeastern Idaho, I spent a lot of time building tree, ground and underground forts. In school, I excelled in the arts, wood shop and math. My first job out of high school was cleaning up construction sites, which led me to framing homes. Eventually, I worked for contractors that did all aspects of residential construction, from digging foundations to finish carpentry. I started college at the age of 20, knowing exactly what I wanted to do: become an architect. I attended Idaho State University in the pre-architecture program, moved on to the University of Idaho and finished my degree at the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Environmental Design in 1985. In my quest for a license to practice architecture, I did an internship with Steamboat Architectural Associates and Habitat Design Group. Istarted my own business of design & build in 1990. Licensed in the state of Colorado in 1995, I have had an enriching and successful business ever since. |
